It is no accident that a pictogram of a seesaw stands-in for playgrounds on maps and road signage across the country. More broadly, the seesaw symbol broadcasts the act of playing. A graphic line pivoting on a triangular fulcrum is perhaps the fundamental act of architecture—to delineate boundaries that enact spatial change. The seesaw condenses form and program into a single object of joy and interaction, enhanced by cooperation that negotiates gravity.
